Teacher of Science

Salary: TMS

A vacancy has arisen to become part of a busy Science department within a high performing and friendly school. Alcester Academy enjoys a strong reputation locally and nationally as a result of our caring ethos and excellent academic performance. Current data places the school in the top 10% of all schools nationally.

The successful applicant will join an ambitious and thoroughly supportive Science team who revel in promoting a real interest and a love of science. The departments results consistently place us above national averages in all disciplines. At Alcester Academy, teachers enjoy the freedom to deploy their individual skills, and talents, whilst conveying a passion for their subject and delivering excellent outcomes.

As a department we offer both combined science and triple award at GCSE. Teachers are expected to teach an individual class all disciplines at KS3 from our bespoke and carefully designed course. At GCSE teachers usually teach within their specialisms, although being a small school, some flexibility is expected. We work with a number of outside organisations to provide STEM workshops, experience and clubs to enthuse and engage our students.

At Alcester Academy, teachers enjoy the freedom to deploy their individual skills, and talents, whilst conveying a passion for their subject and delivering excellent outcomes.

The maths department is proud of the progress that students make. As a team, we have an established record of excellent results; last years’ results far exceeded National Averages: 91% at grades 9-4, 71% at grades 9-5; with a progress 8 score of +0.67- helping to place the school in the top 10% in the country for progress.

Science Technician

Salary: Range £16347- £18048 – to be allocated on appointment

Location: Alcester Academy, Warwickshire

Contract Type: Full time (37 hours) Term time only + 5 Teacher Training Days

Contract Term: Permanent

About the role: We are looking to appoint a Science Technician to join our busy department in our successful over-subscribed school. Alcester Academy is an 11-16 High School with an excellent reputation. Results place the school in the top 10% of all schools nationally.

Primarily, the role will be to support teaching staff in the delivery and preparation of science lessons by preparing required equipment and practical activities, including reviewing practical requirements within the curriculum alongside teaching staff. The successful applicant will also be responsible for ordering resources and maintaining a safe working environment for both staff and students in line with Health and Safety. This includes the routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and the safe disposal of resources.

The ideal candidate will have experience working within a similar role, with knowledge and understanding of science within a school setting, or be keen to learn. The person appointed into role should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. They will be well organised, resourceful and prepared to use their own initiative.

The successful applicant must be committed to safeguarding and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
